I would say Smart Survey are a pretty big competitor as well, especially in the UK because of data protection.
I’ve been using them for over a year now and have seen many people switch to them.

Great article
There are a few new online survey software about which are worth a look at, one being http://www.surveymoz.com, their free plan offers a lot more than SurveyMonkey and a lot of other sites.
Also http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk is a good site for people from the UK.
Also in terms of getting respondents, Cint seems to be a great provider for this service.
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Pretty nice analysis of different software. A website I did come across a list of over 37 different types off alternatives on this page:

I work for Super Simple Survey. About a year ago, when we looked at the status quo of all the survey sites out there, we decided that it wasn’t as it should be. All these sites are built on legacy systems, and the design just wasn’t simple enough. We wanted to design something that would make survey-building accessible to everyone, so we created a site that looks very elegant yet incredibly clean. We called it Super Simple Survey.
The idea was simple, but – as is so often the case – the execution was and always will be challenging. As it is still a work in progress, we would kindly like to ask all of you to send in your feedback and all your other request, so we can make http://www.SuperSimpleSurvey.com not only the simplest site out there, but also the most advanced.
Thanks.
We switched to http://www.surveyi.com because they were flexible and willing build in the features we wanted. We wanted to use matrix question piping which isn’t available on survey monkey and now we have it!
